News From BridleWood Welsh
2008
July
July is flying by. We had a great show in Santa Barbara with all of our ponies taking home top ribbons in halter and performance. It has been rather hot at home since we got home from the show so we have taken some time to hit the pool and Gavin loves swimming. Here is a picture of Gavin "riding" his water toy.

Here are two pictures of Gavin sitting in the barn and he is about as relaxed as he can get!!
June
We just finished a whirlwind month of shows that started in southern California, then went up to Oregon, then over to Tulsa, and ended in Paso Robles. We had great fun and a ton of success with all the ponies. Gavin has now traveled through 10 states and is quite the traveling baby. Tulsa seems to have been his favorite show, but he was a very good baby for all the shows. Here are a few pictures of Gavin at 5 months old at the Paso Show.
February
Here is Gavin at 6 weeks old.
He had great fun during his picture session then needed a good nap after all the excitement.
January
Here is Gavin all bundled up in Wyoming.
Here are a two new pictures of Gavin taken on 1/15/08.

"Mmmmm dinner was good...now it is time for bed."
Here we are with more pictures on the 16th at exactly 3 weeks old.

Above is Gavin after his first real bath.
And the photo session continues...

Gavin is not so sure he likes the photo session...
Dad tries to convince Gavin it is not so bad...
It is official...Gavin does not like the photo session!!
It's a Boy!!
We got a late Christmas present on Dec. 26th at 11:18 am with the arrival of our son Gavin Sinclaire Burtness. Gavin was 7 lbs 4 ounces and 19 3/4 inches. Here are a few pictures of Gavin at two days old.
2007
December
Winter is here and we are all enjoying the break from the show season (except for Mo). Mo would rather still be in full swing of show season as he loves nothing better than going from show to show. He even prefers if we do not go home between the shows and just go from one to the next. Good thing we plan to show him for many years to come!! The rest of the ponies are enjoying being little fuzzy mud-balls though. The two colts are doing well and are both exactly what I was hoping for from Mo foals. BridleWood Fool's Gold is the sweetest foal I have ever met and just has "kid's pony" written all over him. BridleWood Double Down is as cute as they come and just has a head to die for. We are also really exited about our latest purchase, Goldhills Broadway Lights. She is maturing extremely well and looks like she is going to be a large mare with tons of pony type...exactly what we were looking for!! We are looking forward to adding "Brook" to our show team in 2008. She will be joining our Champion lineup of Mo and Daelyn at the shows in 2008.
We are also eagerly awaiting the arrival of our next human generation as well. He is due any day and we will be sure to post photos and news once he arrives.
November
We just attended the last two shows of the season and we could not be more pleased!! Mo earned 1st under all 4 judges, Champion B stallion under 3 judges, Grand Champion Sec. B under 3 judges, Res. Supreme Champion under 2 judges, and Supreme Champion under 1 judge. Mo then went on to be Champion Pleasure Driving A/B at both shows and Res. Champion Carriage driving at the second show. Mo was not shown in the Carriage driving division in the first show. Daelyn also earned 1st under all 4 judges, Champion C/D Mare under 2 judges, Res. Champion C/D Mare under 2 judges, and Res. Grand Champion C/D under 2 judges.
Mo had a fantastic season earning 1,415 WPCSA points in 2007 alone for a lifetime total of 2,149 WPCSA points!! We are extremely proud of our special boy to say the least!!
October
We had an absolutely fantastic show in Tulsa with Mo taking earning Double 1st, Champion and Res. Champion B stallion, Grand Champion, Supreme Champion, Division Champion for Carriage,a nd Division Champion for Pleasure Driving A/B 12.2-14.2!! We could not have asked for a better show to say the least!!
We had a little fun with the two West Coast Golden Boys while in Tulsa and Alison Ruhe captured these wonderful pictures. Mo and Mardi are great friends and love any opportunity to visit with each other. They drew quite a crowd in Tulsa when we were taking these pictures.
Alison Ruhe also captured this wonderful picture of Mo. This is one of my favorite pictures of Mo...Thank you Alison!!!!!
We also had an amazing show down in Riverside the very next weekend with all of our ponies taking top honors in every class entered!! Mo was Double 2nd B Stallion, Res. Grand Champion Sec. B, Division Champion Pleasure Driving A/B 12.2-14.2, and Res. Division Champion Adult English Pleasure A/B 12.2-14.2. Daelyn earned 1st & 2nd and Res. Champion C/D Mare. Barbie was double 2nd in a very strong class as well. Our newest addition, Goldhills Broadway Lights, made her show-ring debut and came home Double 1st yearling and under B fillies and Double Res. Champion Sec. B Fillies!!! It was a great show and was a ton of fun!! Though I have to say it is good to be headed home after being on the road for two weeks!!!!
Above are two pictures of Goldhills Broadway Lights in her very first halter class.
September
It has been quite a while since we have updated the news page. We have been having an amazing season with our 3 show ponies. Mo has earned 7 Supreme Championships and 4 Res. Supreme Championships. Mo has also had great success in the performance ring and is now only 3 performance points short of his Individual Legion of Merit!! We hope to finish this great honor up at our next show.
Mo's daughter, BridleWood Debutante, has also had some great success at the last few shows with a number of halter Championships to her name. We are very proud of this lovely 1/2 Welsh Filly!
Daelyn has also had a number of great shows and finished her 500 halter points. We plan to have Daelyn out in the performance ring in 2008 and are looking forward to adding Performance Championships to her already exemplary show record. We still have a few more shows for 2007 so be sure to check out the 2007 Show Team page to see how we do the rest of the year.
May
We just got back from the 3rd Bronze show for the season and what a show it was!!!
Mo came home Double Supreme Champion from a class of top B stallions and Barbie (Mo's yearling daughter) came home Double Grand Champion 1/2 Welsh!!! What a day to remember!!
Our first foal arrived a little early this year at day 330 and we are extremely pleased to have another beautiful dun colt for Goldhills Most Wanted and BridleWood Desert Rose. We have selected the name BridleWood Double Down and we have given him the barn name of Finn.
April
We attended our first show for 2007 and what a start to the year!!!! We only took Goldhills Most Wanted and were extremely thrilled when he earned 1st and 2nd in a very strong B stallions class and then went on to earn Res. Grand Champion Sec. B. Mo then dazzled us with his skills in Pleasure driving and Carriage Driving earning 5 firsts and a third between the 6 classes. Mo ended the day with Division Champion in Pleasure Driving and Carriage Driving!!! It was a great show and we are looking forward to the next one!!
We have bred Evans Wish Upon A Star to Goldhills Most Wanted for 2008. She is due towards the end of February and we are very excited about this cross!! The start of the show season is growing near and we are really looking forward to the first shows. The breeding season is picking up and we are definitely starting to get very busy. Rose is due in May and she is getting really big. Last year she hardly had a belly at all, but this year she has belly enough for two!!
March
The weather has continued to be very mild and the ponies are all getting their spring coats coming in. I am ready for the shows to start already, but once they do we will more or less go nonstop till July!! Breeding season is not quite in full swing for us yet, but it is still keeping us busy all the same. Our first foal is due in May and that still seems like it is so far away!!
February
We have had a very mild winter so far and while we need more wet weather it has been nice to have so much time with the ponies. All the ponies are well and we are having a great time getting ready for the 2007 season. Breeding season has also started and we have already bred the first mare for 2007. We are also looking forward to the foals that are due this year!!
2006
December
Looking back at 2006 BridleWood Welsh had a wonderful year. Nationally Goldhills Abracadabra earned The National Championship for Adult English Pleasure and was 4th for Sec. B mares. Daelyn earned 3rd Nationally for D Cob Fillies and Mo managed to earn 6th Nationally with only attending 4 shows. We had a great time at all the shows and we are really looking forward to the 2007 season.
Three of Mo's children hit the showring in 2006 with great success. Both BridleWood Guilty As Charged and Sterling Creek Antonio placed extremely well in the Sec. B colt classes earning multiple seconds over nationally ranked yearling and 2 year old colts!!! Our other shinning star is BridleWood Debutante, Mo's palomino Half-Welsh Filly, AKA Barbie. Barbie made it to one show and came home Res. Grand Champion Half-Welsh against a huge Half-Welsh Division!!!! Lookout for these babies in 2007!!
Our other big news for the year was Megan's wedding on December 2nd. It was a beautiful event and Megan is Now Megan Burtness and Christopher Burtness joined the BridleWood Family.
October
We had an amazing time in Tulsa at the American Nationals!! All the ponies did very well and it was definitely a great experience. Mo was a huge highlight earning Res. Supreme Champion and Summer made the weekend even better with her Res. Division Championship in Adult A/B English Pleasure.
We have two more shows in the season then all the ponies get a break over the winter. Next we have the SLWPA show in Paso and then we are off to the Holiday show down south.
September
We had another great set of shows up in Brookside with Mo earning 3 firsts, 1 second, Grand Champion, Res. Grand Champion, Double Res. Supreme, and Double Res. Champion Sec. B Stallion. Summer also did extremely well in all 4 performance divisions between the two shows with a total of 108 performance points earned. The highlight of performance was summer taking 1st in all 3 English classes at the Western Nationals.
We have also added a new page of video clips of many of the ponies.
August
Mo entered the show ring with a big bang!! Mo attended the inland Welsh show in Riverside the first weekend in August and cam home with: 1st and 2nd Sec. B Stallions, Grand Champion Sec. B, Res. Grand Champion Sec. B, and Double Res. Supreme Champion!!! What a way to start back into the shows!!
Summer also had an amazing show taking home Double 1st Sec. B Mare, Double Champion Sec. B Mare, Champion Adult A/B English Pleasure, and Res. Champion Adult A/B WEstern Pleasure!!

Here is Mo with his Sire, Gayfields Call The Cops, after the Supreme class.

July
We are now half way through the show season and we are just having a wonderful time!! The show string has consisted of Goldhills Abracadabra (owned by Goldhills Welsh), Larken Daelyn, *Glebedale Cariad (owned by the Bronson Family), BridleWood Desert Rose, and BridleWood Willy-Be-Dun. Goldhills Most Wanted will hit the shows starting in August when his breeding duties slow down a little as well.
Above is a picture if BridleWood Desert Rose and BridleWood Willy-Be-Dun at the Santa Barbara National Show.
Mo is Trotting into 2006!! With our first dry weekend of 2006 we hit the road for a little fun away from home. We spent the majority of Saturday taking video, riding, and driving Richard's pair of Sec. D Cob mares. It was a total blast!! I am just too excited about the 2006 show season and foaling season.
Take a look at Mo's new pictures of 2006.
I am having a lot of fun with the new video camera and am looking forward to getting a lot of pictures and footage at all the shows in 2006. Mo is continuing to do well in his training both in English and Western. We still has a lot of polishing to do, but I am happy with is current progress.
2005
December
It is almost 2006 and we are really looking forward to the next show season. All the ponies are fuzzy and every time I look at them it reminds me still how much work we have to do before the first show in April. Luckily the two ponies slated to be shown the most are the least fuzzy. Mo and Daelyn are the two ponies that we will be campaigning in 2006. It will be the first year in 6 years that we have not shown Rose. There is a chance she will make it to a few shows for halter, but she has to fully recover from her ligament injury first. We are really looking forward to getting Daelyn out in the halter ring in 2006. She has had such a rocky start with her health, but is looking good and is ready to hit the next show season full speed ahead.
November ~ Update
The show season is now over and we are thrilled with how well our ponies did in 2005. Mo ended the year with a lifetime total of 545 points to his name in halter and Rose in just two years earned over a thousand WPCSA points. We are really looking forward to the foal expected between these two ponies in April.
November
Our last show is this weekend and then comes the time to start making all the plans and preparations for 2006. Rose is still on the injured list, but is more than happy to enjoy her days in the pasture with Mo and her nights being pampered in the barn. Mo is now started under-saddle with three rides to his name. As we all expected he had been absolutely wonderful and nothing but EASY. He has even mastered (for now anyway) the correct leads in both directions. Mo is like ridding nothing else I have ever been on. He floats over the ground with amazing extension at just a lazy working trot. It is just amazing!!
October 2005It has been a long wonderful season. We have a few more shows left to go to then the ponies will get a well deserved break over the winter. Mo had a few mares booked to him this year and we are now looking forward to the excitement of next year. We would like to thank all the mare owners that sent us their beautiful mares this year: Kim Boyd, Sam Burnham, Olivia Reyonoso, Carol Lawall, and Ingrid Low.
Rose has now earned over 1,000 WPCSA points and is well on her way to completing her Individual LOM. She will have a lighter year next year as she is due to foal in April, but will hopefully make it to a few shows during the 2006 season. Mo has also earned his share of points with 506 halter points already to his name. We are hoping to have Mo going under-saddle next year in English Pleasure and Western Pleasure.

We are very excited to see Rose and Mo's foal that is due in April of 2006. Rose is already starting to show her little tummy and is getting more and more opinionated about everything. This foal was previously reserved, but is now again available as for Sale. Contact us if you are interested. It should be an amazing foal.
We have now already been to ten Gold shows and one Bronze. We still have one gold show left.
Thank you to Carrie MacWhorter for taking Mo all the way to Tulsa and showing him to Res. Supreme Champion under Judge Almond!! Mo was also 1st under both Judges, Champion Sec. B Colt under both Judges, and Res. Grand Champion Sec. B under both Judges.
Mo had a wonderful show at the SLW&PA Halloween Haunt last weekend. He was double 1st and Res. Grand Champion under Judge Helen Hogan. Mo was also Overall Youngstock Champion and Res. Overall Youngstock Champion. We were a little disappointed over Rose having to stay home with a sore leg after being kicked in the pasture the week before. Hopefully she will make it to the November show.
